have you heard of this blog?
well, it is now a book.
or maybe you've just heard of the book.
regardless, i just read it.

“God reminded me how beautiful we all are to Him, after all, we were created in His own image, and He looks at me, at you, in all our sweat and dirt and brokenness, and says, "I choose you. You are beautiful.”

“It may take place in a foreign land or it may take place in your backyard, but I believe that we were each created to change the world for someone. To serve someone. To love someone the way Christ first loved us, to spread His light. This is the dream, and it is possible.”

“Every day I have spent in Uganda has been beautifully overwhelming; everywhere I have looked, raw, filthy, human need and brokenness have been on display, begging for someone to meet them, fix them. And even though I realize I cannot always mend or meet, I can enter in. I can enter into someone’s pain and sit with them and know. This is Jesus. Not that He apologizes for the hard and the hurt, but that he enters in, He comes with us to the hard places. And so I continue to enter.”

“Being a Christ follower means being acquainted with sorrow. We must know sorrow to be able to fully appreciate joy. Joy costs pain, but the pain is worth it. After all, the murder had to take place before the resurrection.”

“I believe there is only one truly courageous thing we can do with our lives: to love unconditionally. Absolutely, with all of ourselves, so much that it hurts and then more.”

“I have learned that I will not change the world. Jesus will do that. I can, however, change the world for one person. So I keep stopping and loving one person at a time. Because this is my call as a Christian.

here's a few quotes that i really enjoyed. going into this reading experience, i expected to be overcome with a desire to go. it was kind of the opposite. reread that last quote. it was extremely comforting and wonderful for me to see again in print that i can make a difference where i am. although every day i fight sinful desires of being grouchy, being exhausted, trying to fit in, etc.. my desire is to love people unconditionally, as Christ does. this book gave a really interesting look into the specific way that katie davis felt called to love. a lot of times Christian books can be kind of slow reads. i'm sorry if that makes me a loser. but they just are sometimes. let's talk about how quickly everyone i know (myself included) read the hunger games series. i guess it's when we're being loaded down with truth, it's just a little harder to swallow sometimes. i bring this up to say that this book is a quick and easy read. it's a story, told from a girl close to my age, that is in fact loaded with truth, but you can go into it expecting that you won't find the book in the back of your car in three months three chapters in and be like "oh yeah."

alrighty, i'm done and going to go enjoy this beautiful saturday.
let me know your thoughts if you've read! :)

my happy new year.

Friday, January 13, 2012

yes, it's january 13th.
but i still feel like the new year is starting in a few days, the beginning of spring semester.
the beginning of my second to last semester in glorious college station.
i just have a feeling that it's going to be full of the Lord's goodness.
last semester was one of trials for near everyone that i call close.
i don't know what it was, but i felt like every coffee date or couch talk i shared with someone included tears and frustration and use of the word "sucks".
but it's real sweet to know that i'm loving a Jesus that never changes, and who has compassion beyond my comprehension. even when i can list to you a buncha things that are sad or frustrating, i have even more blessings to count.

so, i'm hoping that this new year is going to be filled with lots of happy, lots of growth.
also, lots of photography. i'm a little learning girl on my new canon rebel t3i and loving practicing in beautiful countryside light with my best friend, as well as watching goofy youtube videos about editing and aperture. note: if you know stuff about photography, extend grace to me and don't judge the fact that i don't know what is under or over exposed or edited badly. this is the beginning!

here's a look.
