Our Lovely Rehearsal Dinner

Sunday, January 27, 2013

On December 28, 2012 we celebrated Wedding Eve! I wish I could bottle up all the crazy feelings of that night. Butterflies, Thankfulness, Overwhelmed, Excited, Amazed, etc! It was such a surreal thing to see the son of my sweet friend and mentor (shoutout Gage if you come across this somehow! or Christy! Hi! Love yall!) run past my British grandmother. Some of my favorite photos from this happy night are just everyone together. It blessed me so much to see how well all the important people in our lives got along. I truly cannot express how much we love our family and close friends.

After our actual rehearsal, which was surreal in itself, we headed over to one of my favorite places, Cachette Bistro. This place is known for their cupcakes, so we didn't have to look far when selecting a rehearsal location.

One of the first things I started thinking about during wedding planning was attendant gifts. I know that sounds silly, but I was REALLY excited to give gifts to the most important ladies in my life. The bridesmaids received monogramed totes from Ballard Designs, and vintage hand crocheted shawls to wear the next day. The members of the house party got the classic Anthro monogram mug filled with Dove chocolates. I made sure to get the ones with the little messages inside. :) I also had a ton of fun choosing cards to give to the girls, it was really important to me to share with each of them why I cherish their friendship so. I finally settled on "you're pretty" cards from Lindsay's Letters. They are no longer available, but these are the new version.

Ben gave the boys each a scarf, a pipe, and some smoking tobacco. Boys are weird, but these gifts seemed to be a huge success.

This may be odd, but the photo above is one of my favorites. It's fun for me to see everyone together, laughing and enjoying themselves.

After we dined, we had a little microphone set up for speeches from whoever wanted to speak. I think in this case, it was "whoever wants to speak and doesn't feel awkward talking in front of everyone." :)
It was really sweet to hear our special folks share about some precious relationships, and give so much glory to God. I made sure to include a photo of my new sister, Kayce sharing. I am so blessed to have a sister now, especially one who is such a precious friend to me. The heavy tears came when Ben's dad shared- Pops sure does know how to bring the house down.

Everytime I look at this photo, I am so overwhelmed! I cannot believe that my friends from all different stages of life, are together, all cuddled up and celebrating with me. I am truly humbled by the fact that people took time out of their busy lives to make us feel like the most special couple in the world. I have some seriously incredible friends!

.... I can only imagine the emotion I am going to feel when we get the wedding pictures back. Cannot wait!

Office Remodel Progress

Thursday, January 17, 2013

Greetings from us on the day we moved all my stuff into the house! Yippee! Look at us, in all of our premarital youth. Such babies! (hehe not really!)

I have been anxious to share progress of the house but let's be real... I just started student teaching and life has been chaos. I wanted my photos to be staged and edited and glory for you lovely folks but that just wasn't happening. So there's a WHOLE LOTTA getting real with y'all in this post. Any thoughts you may have had of us being super put together and incredibly stylish are about to be squashed but that's how it should be. Blogs so often make people's lives look glossy and glorious... and I just want to share our real lives. :)

That being said, here's some progress that has been made in our office!! Well, first.. let's be reminded of what we started with.

Please note the beautiful fireplace feature. The bricks created a stairstep and had weird shelving behind them. Eesh. Also, the wood paneling wasn't doing it for me. Also, sorry for the people in the photos. I realize that's not typical before/after glory. Remember, we're keeping it real here.

Not much progress has been made on the fireplace side of the room since the reveal of the changes that had taken place before we even moved in...

We decided to turn this lovely space into our office.. and my dear husband set out to make us a desk. I was inspired by Young House Love's large desk. It was perfect for a couple to work side by side. Ben loves reading things online, I'm clearly blogging and pinteresting like its my J.O.B. so I wanted togetherness like their desk.

So then there was this.... all our desk stuff.. some wedding presents... some wedding decor.. some Christmas presents. Saying our lives have been all over the place lately is an understatement. But we're blessed. So blessed. I just thought that I should show this shot of when the desk was first moved in.

And here's what we have now. VERY his and hers. You probably can't tell which is which, right? :)
Ben insisted upon keeping his desk chair, so we'll see how that battle continues. This space is still very much a work in progress but I love some of the details we've added so far.

No pictures in the picture frames? YUP. :)

Hope you like this little bit of progress from some newlyweds who have very little furniture. Not to be "that girl" but leave me some encouragement, I'll be needing it after sharing our nitty gritty piles of junk. :)

what I didn't expect about getting married.

hello world! I AM MARRIED! wahoo!!!
I cannot believe how fast the past week has gone by. A week ago to the minute we were leaving our reception. Our wedding day was filled with so many wonderfully incredible memories- to us, it was perfect. Our incredible photographer, Caroline Joy, even had a few images up on Facebook for us to view the night of the wedding. I still can't believe that is real life, and thus a few of those images are included in this post.

The thing that took me by surprise about our wedding the most was the overwhelming gratitude I felt all day. I knew that I was going to be teary eyed with love for Ben all day, but I didn't expect to see such intense and tangible love from our friends and family. The evening before the rehearsal dinner, four friends literally organized my life and packed all of my suitcases with precision. All of the precious friends in the wedding party wrote me notes of encouragement for the big day. We watched our siblings (I have more than one now- yippee!) pick up so many pieces for us and keep our eyes blind to any chaos. We left our reception beaming at how Ben's room mate pulled together our reception by emceeing the whole shindig. We were constantly surrounded by the love and support of so many people. Our reception was quick, and for the first few days after the wedding I struggled with wishing I could have talked to every single person and given everyone a huge hug and a long thank you for their attendance. I cannot even begin to express how special every single person there is to us. Upon arriving home from our wonderful honeymoon in Charleston, South Carolina, our house was cleaned and organized, cars washed, and there were sweet notes and gifts EVERYWHERE. I am almost giddy to start thank you notes and to be able to tell each kind person how blessed we are by them. Every single gift giver makes me want to give extravagantly to everyone I know- we felt so dang loved.

So, in a nutshell.. we've been on a floating cloud of love and support. I knew going into the wedding that Ben loved me a lot. Ben knew going into the wedding that I loved him a whole bunch. But what we didn't expect was to feel overwhelmed by so many sweet people who made us feel so incredibly loved.
