What's Up Wednesday: August 2017

Wednesday, August 30, 2017

Note.. my blog is looking rough so I'm hoping to have this thing under construction the next few days. Be patient with me! :)

1: WHAT WE’RE EATING THIS WEEK:
Leftover soft chicken tacos, spaghetti squash casserole, and a night out with friends! :)

2. WHAT I’M REMINISCING ABOUT:
This week, one of my favorite people in the world rushed Texas A&M Kappa Alpha Theta...

So I've been remembering my senior year bid day! So many good memories of so many phenomenal women in our chapter.

3: WHAT I’M LOVING:
ROUTINES. Does that make me boring? I actually posted a little about this on Monday but lately I just love trying to make our home and life run smoother. I think maybe because fall is here (sort of, haha!) it just feels like a fresh start and I love it.

4: WHAT WE’VE BEEN UP TO:
Last Sunday night we got home from Home Group and Beau has asleep with my mother in law and having a hard time. Poor bubba! He is such a dependable sleeper but the few days after his surgery were rough. He's never been one to "only sleep with us" but this was the case this night. Ben had started to not feel good either and I rocked Beau to sleep and he would then LOOSE IT when I set him in his crib. So I decided I'd just lay him on my chest in our bed and see what happened. He fell asleep and let me roll him over beside me. I slept that night with two little feet at my ribs but other than that we had the snuggliest night ever. I think this will be a perk of having a sick child. :)

Ben and Beau have a new bedtime routine, always kissing through the bars of the crib!

The other day it was extra cozy out and I had been inspired by this instagram from Shay Shull, so we went for it and had Halloween pajama day! :)

We met up with our friends to run some errands and let me just tell you... keeping your baby entertained on a cranky day while shopping is a totally different ball game when you have a first and third grader on the job! :)

I very rarely give Beau his bath. When Ben gets home at the end of the day that's his time with Beau to get him all ready for bed while mama catches up on life. But the other night Ben worked late so I got to snuggle this little shark!

My brother in law and his best friend have now officially done "Back to School Dinner" for TEN years! Basically they just want to eat at a steakhouse for back to school and all the siblings have been tagging along for like the last 5 or so. Always a sweet time!

Lazy Saturday at home!

Multitasking dad at work.

Saturday night we had a home group pool party and it was SUCH a blast. It is so fun to see how much Beau loves our community.

At one point all the excitement inspired him to take a nap at a totally random time, haha. :)

Baby boys in their matching suits! :)

We sang Ben happy birthday and then cleared every speck out of this brownie pan! :)

I just realized I'm juggling babies in a lot of these photos, haha! So fun!

Monday night Bachelor with my two new best girls! Holding two babies at once truly feels like the must surreal thing!

5: WHAT I’M DREADING:
Not anything at the moment! :)

6: WHAT I’M WORKING ON:

We've almost been in our house for a year and while in a lot of ways we're settled, there are some that we're not. I still struggle with the fact that we won't be in this house for an extended period and feeling like I shouldn't work hard to put our stamp on it. I'm slowly getting over that. Whenever Beau moves to a big boy bed (my plan is before he turns two!) and we redo his room I want to do a white shiplap accent wall.. just little things to make it feel more like ours. I've been working on a tablescape, ideas for Ben's office, and a few other things. It just takes a lot of time, brainstorming, and dollaroonies to make your house decorated to the height that you'd like. I do feel like I've finally determined what I like.. which is light, bright.. pretty classic but with a few farmhousey/shabby/Joanna Gaines-y details. :) For those wondering, my all-time home decor idols are Rachel Parcell and Monika Hibbs.

7: WHAT I’M EXCITED ABOUT:
It seems really doom and gloom to say nothing, but I can't think of anything right now. :)

8: WHAT I’M WATCHING/READING:
I've been reading a TON lately. I just finished two fiction books over the past few days actually!

The Light We Lost by by Jill Santopolo (honestly need someone to discuss this book with!!)

The Lying Game by Ruth Ware

and I needed a break from fiction so I just started The Life Giving Home by Sally Clarkson which I bought a few months ago and was reminded of by my friend Nicole!

9: WHAT I’M LISTENING TO:
I'm still on a major podcasting kick. I've been especially loving The Happy Hour with Jamie Ivey lately. These are a few guests I've LOVED:

10: WHAT I’M WEARING:
I've never ordered something so fast as when I saw that the dress worn by Reese Witherspoon on the cover of Southern Living's september issue was a Draper James exclusive. I always thin that it's harder to find fall/winter dresses so I was so pleased to grab this one. It looks like it's already selling out in some sizes so if you want it.. grab it quick!

11: WHAT I’M DOING THIS WEEKEND:
We have almost nothing on the schedule for this weekend and I couldn't be happier for a time of relaxation with my people! I appreciate weekends without plans so much in busy seasons of life, which is what we've been in for sure.

12: WHAT I’M LOOKING FORWARD TO NEXT MONTH:
The routine of Fall! Summer has been good to us but September will bring some familiar rhythms that I'm really excited for.

13: WHAT ELSE IS NEW: I think that about covers it! This is one of my favorite blog posts of the month because it covers so much.. and it always sneaks up on me so I hate when I miss a month. Glad to not forget it this month! :)

Bonus question this month: what are your best back to school lunch ideas and/or tips:
Couldn't possibly have a worse answer to this question, it's been a LONG time since I've made a school lunch. When Ben and I got married I was super dedicated to making both of our lunches when we were off to student teaching, and then when he started working I tried to keep it up but it just fell by the wayside. Can I just share what I eat for lunch here? That's interesting right? :) If I'm eating at home, I'll eat some tuna salad (sometimes with some crackers) or I'll make a turkey wrap, or my newest favorite thing is avocado egg salad which is literally mushed up hard boiled egg in avocado. Yum! If I'm not super hungry I'll eat a greek yogurt.
