A Few Things I Own That Make Great Gifts

Thursday, October 17, 2019

The holidays are right around the corner and if your'e anything like me, you're already doing your Christmas shopping. Early gift buying is one of my life passions, haha!! Ideally I like to have everything wrapped to go under the tree pretty soon after it goes up. And on that note, last Thanksgiving weekend I was in a wedding, so I decorated early. It was SO nice to not spend that holiday weekend putting things up. It made it so much more restful to put everything up mid November. So that's going to be how we roll moving forward. I love Thanksgiving and want it to have it's moment, but watching a new Hallmark movie with twinkle lights on on the night of Thanksgiving.. doesn't that sound amazing? I digress.

In my first Dudley Stephens fleece! :)

I was putting a face mask on and I was thinking what a great gift it would make, and this post came to be. Enjoy! It's a great one to reference for your own wishlist, or anytime you need a great gift. :) This time of year people are making wish lists to share with parents, in laws, whoever.. so hopefully this helps you with that! :)

Note: As always, I choose retailers based on best price, and where you can get free shipping!

Origins Charcoal and Honey Mask- Face masks are one of the most restful things ever to me. This one is amazing because the honey smell is really lovely. It just makes the whole experience feel extra luxurious because the entire time you smell the honey. It also really clears up the skin, the main purpose, haha! I really love it. Check out the great reviews for people who can describe better than I can, haha!

Monogrammed Weezie Towels- In my humble opinion, anything personalized is an excellent gift because it shows the thought that went into it. Weezie towels are at a higher price point, but especially for someone who loves little luxuries or interior design, these are a great gift. If someone gifted me a set of hand towels I would about loose it. I personally have my eye on the robe!

Rothy's- Rothy's are super talked about right now, but for good reason. I own three pairs and they're so comfy. These are a great one to put on your own holiday wish list. I recently got the slip on sneakers in "salt honeycomb" and I wear them almost daily now that sandal weather is over. In case you're interested, the other two pairs I own are the Meghan Markle flat (size up), and this pair in leopard.

Dudley Stephens fleece- I originally wrote off this brand. I was like, oh fleece would make me feel hot and yucky and I wouldn't like it. Then I fell down the rabbit hole of how incredibly chic everything on their instagram is. So I thought I would try something in their lighter "terry fleece", and fell in love. I would own everything they make if I could. The quality is amazing and their stuff is so comfortable and makes you look so much more put together. For the record, I did end up branching out from the lighter terry fleece to their regular fleece, and cannot wait to wear a few styles this fall and winter. They feel incredible. I size up in everything with them. They are a splurge but the amount of wear that I've already gotten and it hasn't really even been cold yet.. it's amazing! Trust me on this.

For $25 off your first purchase of $150, shop from this link! :)

IVL Collective leggings- Okay, so everyone always goes on and on about their favorite leggings. I've tried them all. Lululemon aligns, the amazon knockoffs, etc. I have followed Emily Jackson (the IVL creator) for years, and her sister Rachel Parcell might be my favorite person to follow of all time. I love her!! Haha. Anyways, you never know with blogger brands if it's all just hype or not, but these leggings are truly the best I have ever had. They are thick and nice but feel light. They're so comfortable, don't get piling on them (my aligns are nasty with piling!!) and the high waist sucks you in and stays up. Like TRULY stays up. If you read the reviews they're all about that. Incredible!! I splurged on a pair and then was like okay I need a second pair.. and to try the bra. They're that good. This time of year I live in leggings so I'm hoping Santa magically gives me like 5 pairs. Probably not realistic.. haha!! For sizing.. I got my usual jean size in the leggings (4) even though I expected to size up because I usually would with some luluemon styles and I just imagined it being comparable. I got a 10 in the bra and I'm a 34DDD. Can't believe I put that information on the internet but here we are. Thought it would be helpful for anyone buying. Of all the things on this list these and the Dudley Stephens fleece are really close to tied for first!

Little Seed Farm Deodorant- Great stocking stuffer for your gal who wants a natural deodorant but hasn't found one that actually works. I have tried a zillion, and I react badly to the baking soda in most natural deodorants. I few without it that I've tried just plain don't work for me. Like, REALLY BAD don't work for me. My sweet friend Mycah recommended this and I'll never look back. I got the lavender and I honestly will probably order another one of these to have with me in my purse. Don't let the fact that you wipe it on with your fingers deter you. I almost let it and it's not weird at all. Just rub it on, wash your hands.. done!

Risen Motherhood by Emily Jensen and Laura Wifler- Amazingly encouraging, perspective shifting read. Perfect for any mom friend. I'd love to gift it to a friend wrapped up with her favorite type of chocolate or tea for a birthday gift, surprise happy, hostess gift, Christmas present... anything!

On that note.. here are a few other books I've enjoyed that would make gifts in the same way.
Women of the Word by Jen Wilkin- easy to read (or listen to!) book about bible study
Slightly South of Simple by Kristy Woodson Harvey- I loved this fiction series so much this summer and quickly read all three books!
American Royals by Katharine McGee- For someone who loves a good fiction read and the royal family
Educated by Tara Westover - Very talked about and interesting
Tell Me Everything by Cambria Brockton - For someone who likes a creepy mystery

Happy gifting! :)

Friday No. 85

Friday, August 2, 2019

Probably two months ago I ran into Sephora to get a few mask samples to try out. I had in mind kind of what I wanted to try but the skincare specialist insisted on this mask. Sure, whatever. By far my favorite mask I've used. The honey in it just feels so luxurious when it goes on because of the texture and also just the smell is heavenly. It really tightens and brightens my skin. And compared to some other options, the $34 price tag isn't the worst that you could ever come across. Masks are my mama self care, big time. Yesterday afternoon Beau had two back to back therapy sessions and I wasn't feeling good so Sophie and I were just trying to survive the wait and get home. When we did, I plopped the kids in front of the tv, put this mask on, and hung out with my babies letting us all relax until daddy got home! I actually have a photo of this that I sent a friend, haha!!!

Jessica's Charleston collection is absolutely GORGEOUS. I loved looking at it and if you had a spot for art in your home one of these pieces would be a great choice!

Not the most amazing photo of your life but Ben built me this coffee table! PRAISE HANDS! I kept coming across this style and loving it but every option was just not what I was wanting to spend. We didn't get amazing wood or anything but this ended up being less than $100.

I kind of think that I want to white wash it (vs staining).. does anyone have experience with this? Any tips?

We leave for London on Monday! Yippee! I'm not as prepared as I would have liked to be with Sophie being sick last week and me this week. Thankfully the boys in our household have killer immune systems. I shouldnt jinx it but Beau has done SO well with not getting sick the last maybe year or so. Anyway.. we're so excited to see family and also to see England through the eyes of our children. On our last international trip Beau was barely crawling and now I have two toddlers who RUN so it's going to be so fun. Someone posted a video of the changing of the guards at Buckingham palace and I realized that I hadn't even considered something like that because it's not something that in the past Ben and I would have wanted to do.. but Beau and Sophie (Beau especially) would be absolutely in awe... added it to our list! It was such a fun realization to realize that now our children are at the stage where we can do some activities catered to them. The thing I'm most excited about (outside of seeing family) is our day trip to the Cotswolds!

On Wednesday we celebrated Charlotte's Joy with homemade cookies for friends. It was a bright spot in my week to do something in support of the precious Robson family!

Happy Weekend! You can read other Friday posts, here

Ten Things I loved in July

Monday, July 29, 2019

1. Beau's Room Refresh: One random night I had enough with the problems in Beau's room and just started purging and ordering to solve the problem. Good thing I had some fun money saved, haha! His previous bed was metal and the bars were so wide that several times he would wiggle between them and get stuck and one day I was just like, NO MORE! I ordered him a new bed that has been a much better fit in several ways (it's a bit lower to the ground, giving me a little bit more peace of mind if he were to fall out, haha!) and ordering the bed just inspired me to get rid of a lot of lingering "nursery" details and give him a full big boy room. I need to style the top of his dresser but everything else is done and it's so much happier of a space. I've loved it being redone for him! I know he probably doesn't care too much but it makes me happy. More photos coming soon!

2. My New favorite Dress: Y'all may have noticed that I have a thing for dresses. This one is one of my favorite ones ever. Can't wait to take it on our upcoming trip!

3. Pina Coladas (lol): This is actually from the end of June, but we went out to dinner with some friends for a birthday and everyone ordered margaritas. I don't drink and on a whim I ordered a virgin pina colada and it was SO good. Like a yummy pineapple smoothie milkshake. I had another one last week for a girls night. It even had toasted coconut on top! Yum!!

4. Amazon White T-Shirts: I talked about these before but a white t shirt that you can wear without an undershirt, and has great length... AMAZING!!! I want 100 of these!

5. Elisabeth and Butter Banana Muffins: I'm always loving healthier baked goods for my kids since they wolf them down. This recipe was easy and delicious. Beau and Sophie approved! :)

6. Megan Molten on Instagram: I love finding new designers to follow on instagram, and her stories are particularly entertaining. She explains her installs and I've gotten a ton of inspiration from her spaces!

7. My kindle: CONTROVERSIAL TOPIC, haha! I gave up "real" books several years ago. Although I agree the experience of reading one is lovely, I don't like clutter, but I love reading. I also love rereading books. So the whole not wanting to hold onto books yet wanting to still have them thing only had one solution, e-books. I've exclusively read the kindle app on my phone or iPad for years but it had been hurting my eyes and I didn't love that I would still get texts which would distract my experience. I guess I could have put my phone on airplane mode but instead I got a kindle on Amazon Prime day and I'm so happy with it!! I ordered the one that Shay Shull recommended!

8. The Beaufort Bonnet Company's new fall arrivals: Shopping for my children is my #1 hobby, haha! Fall arrivals are so sweet and since I know it will be a bit cooler when we're in England this month, I quickly ordered a few things. Below I'll put a quick little slider of my favorite pieces from this first fall launch! :) I also jumped to order Soph a Christmas dress that is just DARLING!

9. Family Staycation + House stalking: Last week we had a sweet little staycation of family time and we ended up going to an estate sale on a gorgeous street. This beautiful home stopped me in my tracks and I loved looking at it, haha!

10. My Patriotic Babies! July 4th will always have a different meaning for our little family. In 2014 on July 4th we lost our first little angel in a miscarriage. It may seem silly to some, but putting my two in a special July 4th outfit and taking their photo brings me comfort and hope to a loss that will always sting. The photo this year was crazy to me because with Beau & Sophie sitting side by side I could almost imagine another baby or two seated beside them. It makes me excited for the ways the Lord will grow our family in the years ahead!

Friday No. 84

Friday, July 26, 2019

As you can see from the photo above, a highlight from this week was cleaning out our linen closet. Wow, getting old! Haha! These are the things that I get my kicks from these days. It felt so good to get rid of what we don't need. I originally had linens and a bunch of toiletries in the closet and I moved all the toiletries to under the bathroom sinks and the closet is now only linens, it just feels so clean and organized. This is embarrassing but before our extra sheet sets were just all stacked together and I would struggle to match the right pillow cases but now I have each set in a basket and life just feels so much better. Any other organization lovers out there? :)

On a similar note, if you enjoy reading birth stories, this is a great one.

And on another similar note, I really enjoyed this post on body positivity while planning a wedding. Random read for me, I know, haha! But I've loved following Krista's blog, honestly because we have really similar body types. Full disclosure she curses a few times in the post which isn't my fave but it isn't constantly throughout or anything.

An inexpensive fashion find that I need to share with y'all.. First, the perfect white tee shirt. I had basically given up on thinking that I would ever be able to find my ideal white tee shirt. It was starting to feel like the idea of an opaque shirt wasn't realistic, haha! I can't remember where but I saw on Facebook someone mention these and you will not believe the price. I ordered immediately (sizing up because of my tee shirt looseness preference, haha!) I don't have to wear an undershirt and the length is just what I want and I'll probably end up ordering many more of these! :) Order and you can thank me later, haha! :)

This is a pretty old post, but I really enjoyed this post from Do Say Give on Postpartum and Newborn time. I felt it a little less after having Sophie.. but there is so much pressure to be up and doing everything quickly after baby. I  have especially felt this in regards to your body. Like let's try and not look like you just had a baby ASAP. This time around I really let nursing be my permission to just chill out and it's been so good!

Happy Weekend!

Sophie's First Birthday Party

Friday, July 5, 2019

I don't know what it is about today.. but I just felt like blogging. If anyone's still out there.. haha! I miss this space and honestly, what's kept me from it is the fear of criticism and cranky people. In general I had been struggling with how much of my kids to share, and a few aggressive comments and instagram messages from people putting words in my mouth or making horrible accusations.. well that was enough to make me want to retire, haha! The reality though, is that I need to ignore the fear, and I can still share lots of sweet moments about Beau and Sophie without actually sharing a lot of WHO they are and things that I would prefer to keep offline. :) So, today, Sophie's first birthday party!!

The weekend of the party was a huge undertaking. It came at a time in life where I was feeling pretty overwhelmed. Honestly not for any big reason but just in general I was treading water. My dear friend Meredith was planning on coming in town for the party with her daughter who's exactly a month younger than Sophie. We thought we would be crazy and try and do a family portrait session the night before the 11am party. Coordinating everything for photos and the party was honestly too much and I don't have any regrets because the family photos were some of our best ever (I mean.. this pic!!) but it was a lot for me as a type a person who was already feeling overwhelmed with her life. Meredith had to keep telling me to put one foot in front of the other, haha! So Friday morning I had a dry bar appointment and then drove to meet my friend Haley who made the party cookies, and then to drive to Dallas to pick up Meredith and Mary Quinn from the airport. We then went straight into last minute party errands, then came home to feed babies, freshen up, and leave for photos. We got home at like 9 that night, and stayed up late working on balloons for the party. Phewwwweeee. All of that being said, a ton of things I wanted to do for her party didn't end up coming together. I loved the time we spent celebrating Sophie but in general my vision didn't come to life for a variety of reasons. But it was still incredibly special, and she has many more birthdays that I can craft an elaborate vision honestly. Haha!
The morning of the party we put together this incredible balloon installation on this stand. I put so much work into it. But what we couldn't plan for was a freak wind storm. Even once we attached them to the stand the wind was so crazy that the entire thing blew over. Thankfully no one was around it and there was nothing else on it yet but the whole thing was destroyed. We literally threw the mess in the garage because we were running out of time, and meanwhile inside the house some mishaps were happening and the inside of the house was flooding. Overall just super overwhelming haha! If you look closely you can see we literally had to scotch tape every single bit of the banner because the wind was so bad. It settled down just as guests were arriving which I was so grateful for.

The cake was absolutely perfect. I loved the candles (inspired by my friend Sarah!) and my sister in law and one of my best friends arranged the flowers. Originally my sister in law and I wanted to make the cake but they ended up having house guests too and we decided this was an area we needed to outsource, haha!

Another special detail.. Sophie's cake knife set! This was what we got her for her birthday. It's engraved with her full name and birthdate, and her monogram. We'll use them for each of her birthdays and then on her wedding day. Cue the sobs. We have one for Beau too and they're so precious to me! I ordered them both from here.

We had tons of pink candies out and the whole party my niece played candy shop and served everyone. Such special memories of this!

We actually had to move the location of all the food tables because of a ton of rain that we had just had and so they ended up being in direct sun, which wasn't my preference but it is what it is. :)

So special seeing Soph love her party!

I wore this dress, with this cardigan, these earrings, and these slides.

I imagine that in this photo she's thinking "Welcome to my party y'all!"

Sophie's dress was from our favorite Beaufort Bonnet Company. Here are links for her bow, shoes, and socks. :)

My people!

We had cute bows on the corners of the high chair... but remember the wind storm!! Haha!

Sophie was SO happy to be sang to. She loves a lot of sweets but cake isn't her favorite.

Just look at her happy face! She wasn't super into the cake so Beau started helping her, and both her cousins. That was by far my favorite part of the whole party, my four favorite babies together!

She had a custom hat and bib from Preppie Peony and somehow the hat didn't make it onto her head for this. Which is nuts!! Haha! Couldn't recommend the shop more though.

Hope you enjoyed a little peek into our girl's day! :)

Beautycounter Favorites

Wednesday, February 20, 2019

I've recently gotten a few questions about what Beautycounter products I use and enjoy. I don't sell Beautycounter but have really enjoyed adding some of their products to my routine over the past few years. If you aren't familiar, Beautycounter makes clean makeup and beauty products. Like most brands, I've loved a bunch of stuff, but there are also several things that haven't been my favorite. I share that just to say that I haven't gone through the website and just listed every single thing, haha! A few years ago during a sale I bought my first few things, and since then I've added a bunch to my collection.

Overnight Resurfacing Peel: This is by far my favorite Beautycounter item, so I'll start with it. :) I use this about every other night and it just makes my skin look fresher, brighter, firmer.. everything that's good about skin. I'll repurchase this as soon as I run out!

Brightening Facial Oil:  I will mix in a drop or two of this with my moisturizer honestly in the morning or the evening. And when an area of my skin is particularly irritated I'll apply it directly to those areas. It's not heavy and makes my skin glowy. If I'm wearing foundation it helps the foundation go on really well! If you haven't used a facial oil before it can seem weird I think, but it's been a game changer for me!

Cleansing Balm: This item is pricey and I wish I could have resisted, haha! But now I have it, it's a must have for me. It's wonderful for taking your makeup off but also goes on overnight as a mask and my skin never looks better than when I use it overnight. You can google all the uses and it's amazing!

Charcoal Cleansing Bar: I was originally really turned off by the idea of using a soap bar, but I honestly really like it. Maybe even more than using a gel cleanser. This makes my skin feel really deep cleaned.

Balancing Facial Mask: I love me a good face mask and this one is great. You can literally see the impurities being pulled out of your pores. Gross, but satisfying! Haha!

If you're interested in trying several of those products but without the sticker shock of all at once, several of them are included in this "best of Beautycounter" set. I'd highly recommend trying it out!

And this is the eye cream that I'm currently using. I don't know that I'm just like having my world rocked by it but I like it! It's for sure helped the skin around my eyes look bright and firm.

I'm about to order this to try out. My skin has been completely wackadoodle throughout pregnancy/postpartum/still nursing and I've heard that it's awesome!

Tint Skin Foundation: I really like this. It's buildable, smells really good, and is hydrating. Especially this time of year I need the hydration!!

Sheer Lipstick: I have this lipstick in petal and rose and LOVE it. It's beautiful, goes on really smooth, and isn't too wild and crazy.

There ya go! Hope this helps! If you have any favorites from Beautycounter that you think I should try, let me know! :)

Photos by my sweet friend Michaela, who sells BC! :) I texted her and was like my post needs some pics, help! Didn't she deliver well? :)

Friday No. 83

No. 1
Hope you all had a sweet week and a fun Valentine's Day! We had a fun day.. in the morning Ben took Sophie on a date and I took Beau on one. We both went and ordered pancakes with our babes and it was so good for my heart to get that one on one time with Beau. Then Ben headed to the office for most of the day and we had a Valentines Dinner with my niece and nephew (and the rest of the family!) and had SO much fun. Really sweet new tradition and any excuse to make a normal day special I'm always up for! :)

No. 2
I stumbled upon this video on Facebook and it made my day. It was so funny and quick and just made me happy.

No. 3
My friend Amber posted this blog post months ago and it's so, so good.. so I didn't want time passing to keep me from sharing it. Amber is one of the very, very first people that I connected with through blogging. Must have been 7 or so years ago.. it was in college for sure! Totally wild. And so fun that we now both have brand new baby girls with precious big brothers!

No. 4
A while ago I came across some really cute scalloped tortoise earrings at Tuckernuck but because a statement earring isn't something I constantly wear I didn't pull the trigger.. but then Holy City Chic posted a very similar style in white on her instagram stories.. so I jumped over to see if they were also available in tortoise and BINGO! $8 and on their way to my house. I'm sure the quality isn't the best thing in the world but I don't need it to be. :)

No. 5
My friend Mycah recently posted her daughter's first birthday and it made me excited to work on Soph's.. even though it's such a bittersweet milestone. My favorite details from Lively's first birthday are her darling outfit (I actually ordered the same one for Sophie for fall when it came out because it was TOO cute and I thought it would be precious on an 18 month old!), and that CAKE! It's beautiful with the flowers on it! :) Can't wait to share with y'all what I'm working on for my girl.. but for now, here's a look back at my baby boy's first birthday party, farmers market theme!

All of my Friday posts can be found here.

A Few Spring Children's Favorites

Wednesday, February 6, 2019

It's no secret to those who know me that we have a favorite children's clothing line, Beaufort Bonnet! Even my friend from Georgia texted me one day to try and encourage me to sell BeautyCounter and she was like "more money to buy Tbbc!!" Haha! These pieces are investments for sure, but the quality is amazing and they hold their value. I love snapping photos of my babes in their TBBC pieces, but because their third Spring launch dropped tonight, I thought I would share my favorite things from their Spring collection! :)

I can't possibly order this for Soph fast enough. You had me at white and eyelet!!

If I had a big girl she'd be getting this darling dress for everyday!

Whether you have a daughter or not, treat yourself to these jammies! They're my absolute favorites. I wear a pajama set every night and since I started I haven't looked back. If you DO have a daughter though.. snag some matchies. Sophie and I will match all summer long!

These are my absolute favorite shorts for Beau. I wish I had ten pairs, not even kidding. He looks so sweet in them, the quality is great, and they're easy to wear! Pair them with a super soft pima tee. If you haven't cuddled your baby in a pima tee, just trust me on this. :)

My sweet friend got this for our girl as a gift.. I can't wait for warm weather for her to wear it! Size up! Everything I'm getting for Sophie for summer is 12-18 and the 18-24 fits great with room to grow!

This hat is the kind of thing girl mama dreams are made of! And this doesn't match.. but a sunsuit that ties in a bow.. MUST!!

I have to savor my last summer with Beau in a jon-jon!!

Spoiler alert: this dress is what Sophie's going to wear for her birthday party!

These swimsuits (girl + boy) are going in Easter baskets at the Strader house.. Daddy needs to get the memo that mama needs the coverup match!

If you buy one thing as a girl mama this spring.. it should be this. We had it in 0-3 last summer and wore it like twice a week. It's so soft. Sophie already wore this week. My favorite for while she's still little! Honorable mention to this similar one!

I ordered this so quick for Soph for Easter! Every Southern baby needs a bonnet for Easter. Not everyone I know agrees with this... haha. Funny story.. whenever Sophie wears a bonnet ALWAYS elderly people stop me to gush about it. She wore a red velvet one to Christmas Eve service and seriously an older gentlemen came across the hall to me just to comment on how precious it was!

This is what Sophie has on in the photo above! One of my absolute favorite pieces ever!! We sized down to a 6-12 and it will fit her perfectly all summer!

10 Things I Loved in January

Monday, February 4, 2019

1. My top spot for January has to be these face masks. I have had hormonal acne issues on and off since first getting pregnant with Beau.. but it started to get REALLY bad in November/December/January.. I used one of these masks on someone's recommendation (can't remember!!) and it zapped almost all of my acne in one night. It's a great, enjoyable mask but more than that it allowed me to realize that the reason my skin had gotten so bad was because of how dry it had gotten with the winter weather. I should have noticed sooner but I didn't and so this helped me make the mental leap, haha! I've finally almost got it under control and just need the remaining pink spots to fade. I just ordered this (just came back in stock finally please never sell out again if you work!!!) because I've read that it does wonders for those lingering spots.

2. If you're from Charleston/Bluffton, I need your help! I'm headed there on a girls trip in June with my friend and her daughter and my Soph.. we're SO excited. We'll be staying in Charleston but are going to Bluffton for the day for something fun so we might need a good place to eat or something! :)

3. I bought Chrissy Teigen's second cookbook on a random walkthrough of Target and really enjoyed looking through it.. and the banana bread recipe is AMAZING! Highly, highly recommend. I made one for home group last Sunday night and was surprised by how much of it was gone when we left.

4. We had a training at church on family discipleship for home groups (SO excited to share more about this!) and one of the other leaders said that they were having a hard time getting all the kids in their group (7 under 4) to stay engaged to a whole story out of Jesus Storybook Bible (SUCH an amazing resource!) and the children's pastor recommended a different bible for younger ages. He said JSB is an awesome resource for sleepy bedtimes and older kids and honestly even for adults.. but recommended this for toddlers and this for 3,4+. I ordered the toddler one right away and it's awesome because the story is just a few sentences and there's always a main idea and a question.

5. While everyone has been Whole 30-ing, I've been enjoying a new chocolate treat in the evenings. :) My bestie recommended the caramel m&ms and they're SO good. I have a new package in the pantry but am going to try and not open it for a bit. They are just TOO yummy!

6. Speaking of the evenings, Ben and I just got current on Poldark (Amazon Prime Video + 4th season on the PBS app) and we LOVED it. We got SOO frustrated with the main characters at points but it's always so much fun when we can really enjoy a show together. Each evening we would look forward to our next episode so much. We just started Victoria so hopefully we'll get into it as much.

7. Shopping for a baby girl for Spring has been SO fun. It's a cute, cute world of clothes out there, haha!! Sophie is stocked until her first trip to the pumpkin patch! One boutique that I highly recommend is The Frilly Frog. Amazing customer service. :)

8. This month one of my fave, fave people to follow released photo editing presets. I literally bought them that very second, haha! Her editing style is amazing. I've really loved getting more into photography over the past year and these presets have been wonderful. I also really like that the tweaking I need to do is helping me learn more and more about editing in general.

9. I'm getting to where I like specific sizes of bows for Sophie and don't really feel like I can do any bow subscriptions anymore.. they are usually all different sizes and patterns so I end up not putting her in them near as much as I do ones I've specifically chosen. I just ordered a few bows from this etsy shop and was really impressed with the quality.

10. This is usually something I wouldn't say but I am glad to put January behind us! So #10 is the end of the month... haha!! Beau has been SUCH a trooper with his big cast as of late but this mama is desperate to give her baby a nice warm bath as opposed to washing his hair in the sink and body with a rag to avoid getting the cast wet..

What are some of your faves from last month?! :) Ps. My comments are for some reason not coming in as emails as they used to.. so I'll be replying in the comments section so make sure to check "notify me" so you can see my reply! :)

February Goals

Friday, February 1, 2019

Goals posts used to be the one thing you could depend on seeing on my blog.. almost no matter what I'd have goals up. They're kind of a hybrid to do list/adknowledgement of upcoming events/things I want to be mindful of. Let's just jump into it. I'm writing this with Beau sitting beside me on the couch watching his favorite youtube video and I want to try and get it done quick, haha! Sophie's snoozing through her morning nap! :)

February Goals:
  • Hopefully this time next week we will have a cast free little boy! I want to feel freedom to jump back into life now that he's not going to be in a bubble of healing
  • celebrate turning 28 (!!)
  • complete my spice drawer organization project
  • Make a master to do list for Sophie's birthday party at the end of April so that I can be spreading out tasks and not getting overwhelmed!
  • plan out what I want to do with the walls of Beau's room to make it more of a big boy room
Nothing too crazy, but this is what's on my mind for this month! :) What do y'all have planned?

What's Up Wednesday: January 2019

Wednesday, January 30, 2019

Hi! Is anyone out there?? It's been so long since I've blogged that this feels super rusty and unnatural. But I continually miss this space, so I'm jumping back in. Forgive any awkwardness that might come from such a long hiatus, haha!

I made this salmon recipe last night with asparagus and roasted tomatoes. Monday night Polly brought by brisket quesadillas. Tomorrow night we have a date night, and I think tonight we have stuff for fajitas!

We had the SWEETEST Holiday! It feels like a lifetime ago though.. all these January 74th memes are so accurate.

Also, my friend is having her third baby next Wednesday and doesn't know the gender.. so we were talking about if I carried differently with my two. I would have said no, but look at these two photos. They're TERRIBLE but really show when I was super big.

Beau on the left, Sophie on the right. She was SO much higher. And, I looked a lot thinner with her. I honestly didn't pay much attention to my weight gain with Soph.. I just knew I had stopped gaining at around 30 weeks like I did with Beau. (Don't worry, I gain plenty leading up to that point, haha!) It's just funny how you forget things!

I've been cooking up a storm lately and have been loving it! I got a new cookbook and it's been such a good one.  I've also been doing a few house updates. I hung some pictures in our entryway, and have done new lamps in the living room and in our bedroom. I want to share photos of everything soon! :) It's just left me feeling really fresh. I also think that I'm really getting down to what my style is, longterm. There are some things I've loved every minute since Ben and I got married and really sticking to those styles is what I want to do so that there's no temptation to just cycle through things. This is why I love a classic look so much! I have a bunch of clothes that Ben wore as a toddler that are still in style for Beau, and I think that a handful of Beau and Sophie's things will be amazing for their forever boxes.
We started the year off with Beau having the first of two surgeries on his thumbs to correct their shape. I had been dreading the procedure so much until someone told me how excited they were for him, and for how he'll be able to interact with the world after getting used to his new thumb shape. It was so odd how quickly I had forgotten the whole point! We have about a week until his post op appointment where he will hopefully get his full arm cast off. It's meant that we've been home a lot more than usual for surgery recovery. I love our home and am usually not someone who gets like this too much but I've been like LET ME OUT OF THIS HOUSE!! Haha! We've had to find little adventures that I can go on because it's just been a lot of long days. We've for sure gone some places but it's just not been what's best for Beau during recovery.

One day we went to Target as a family for a few things that we actually needed but also to try and burn off some of Beau's energy.. soccer in the aisle helped! Oops!

This girl just melts me!

Snack time after nap with our dirty window! Haha!

Crawling girl busting some toes through her jams!

Went to a croissant making class at Sur La Table.. SO much fun! I've been doing a ton of baking since we've been home so much and I need to stop or we're going to have some health troubles, haha! I will note that Chrissy Teigen's Banana Bread recipe is PERFECTION!

This cracked me up.. Ben had to write a contract after he had already gotten home from the office and he had some helpers! :)

Honestly not anything! Maybe the next surgery but I feel so much more well equipped after doing the first one, and it will feel like we're in the home stretch!

I've started putting some things together for Sophie's first birthday party. It's still three months away but I just don't do last minute, haha! It's had me looking back at Beau's sweet party. In a lot of ways I'm dreading her turning one, I just love having a baby SO much.. but also I loved the summer after Beau turned one. Looks like I am dreading something after all, haha!

We just got finished four seasons of Poldark and LOVED it! We also watched the Netflix Fyre documentary last night and were both so intrigued. So nuts how that happened!! I read several books last month so I might do a book review soon! :)

My normal podcasts (Young House Love, The Happy Hour, Risen Motherhood) and have been trying out a few new ones as well.. will report back once I decide my thoughts.

Honestly nothing super exciting. This time of year I'm not super inspired wardrobe wise. Lots of leggings! :)

We'll be watching the super bowl with friends, and we've been savoring our slow family Saturdays!

I don't know that I'm necessarily looking forward to this but next week I'll turn 28! It's funny because I remember being 18 so clearly. I wish I could go back to my 18 year old self and say "hey guess what in ten years you and Ben will have been married for 6 years and have two beautiful children, a son and a daughter".. I would have probably gone bananas! My life is so far from perfect but it's a complete dream come true. You can read our love story, here. I linked the last installment because it has links to the first 7 posts at the top!

Not a whole lot! :)

The last two years I've taken my baby boy on a breakfast or lunch date and it's been such a sweet thing for me... and this year we have sissy! I haven't talked to Ben about it yet but it would be fun if we split up and did a date with each of them.. having both genders of kids even as our family grows he could always take our girl(s?) and I could take our boy(s?) either way it sure is sweet! It's something thats made Valentines Day really special. Usually its a holiday we don't care too much about, but this is so much fun! Actually... now that I say that we have had several really fun Valentine's Days! 4 years ago we went to New York City and had dinner at Isabella's on the Upper West Side, 3 years ago we went to Sissy's Southern Kitchen (which has sadly closed!) and then the last two years we've had our boy.. last year our sweet friends wanted to keep Beau with their three kids and send us on a date so I remember that so fondly too! Apparently I am a Valentine's gal after all! Ben if you're reading this stop now.. But I'm toying with the idea of getting him a new, nice pillow for a present. He got me one for Christmas and I've LOVED it. He actually stole it one night, too. Haha! This one is what we have.
